President John Dramani Mahama has expressed optimism that the National Economic Forum will achieve its goal of formulating ideas to improve the economy..
The president was speaking at the opening of the forum, which is aimed at deliberating on existing economic policies and to correct shifts that have occurred in the economy as a result of Ghana's attainment of a lower middle income status. The four-day forum which begun Tuesday, is taking place at the Royal Senchi Hotel, near Akosombo in the Eastern Region.
According president Mahama, the country's major challenge over the years has been its ability to help sustain microeconomic stability.
He called for all hands on deck, to deliberate on issues affecting the nation's growth and achieve its economic goals.
In so doing, he noted, the role of the private sector, which includes providing employment, cannot be over looked stressing, "we need to work with the private sector as partners."
President Mahama disclosed several steps his administration is taking to help resolve the country's challenges. He said the government will soon launch a major campaign to promote the consumption of made in Ghana products.
It was his believe that Ghana will emerge from its economic challenges "stronger and better".
The four-day forum is under the theme: "Changing the narrative, building national concensus for economic and social transformation."
