The paramount Chief of Ave-Atanve in the Akatsi District of the Volta Region, Torgbui Dunyo Hodji IV, who is based in Canada, has congratulated the Chiefs and people of Gbi traditional area as well as the Zongo Community in the Hohoe Municipality for their swift approach in resolving the impasse which occurred.
Speaking via telephone interview with Joy News reporter Agbeko Ben Coffie, Torgbui Dunyo Hodji IV expressed concern about the disturbances in Hohoe, indicating that the incident, which nearly marred the relationship among members of the Zongo Community and members of the Gbi Traditional area, was regrettable and appealed to the aggrieved parties to accept peace and take steps by themselves for lasting peace in the area.
He said he shares in the predicament of the paramount Chief of the Gbi Traditional, adding, the matured manner that Torgbui ga Gabusu displayed in handling the crises was the surest way in resolving the matter.
He advised the people of the Volta Region not to consider the recent disturbances at Hohoe as a Conflict between Muslims and Christians, but must see it as a misunderstanding between the Zongo community in Hohoe and the Traditional Council.
According to him, it was important to make this distinction clear in order not to touch on the sensitivity of the people involved in the crises.
He also noted that, there are quite a number of people from the Volta region who are leaving among people with various Ethnic, religious and traditional background, hence the need to show decorum and tolerance in order to maintain the good relationship that existed among the members of the Zongo community and the people of Gbi.
He reiterated the need for the members of the Zongo community, particularly the leadership to restrain their youth, who were alleged to have contributed to the crises.
Torgbui Dunyo Hodji IV also congratulated the government especially the Regional Security Council and the Regional House of Chiefs as well as all other stakeholders including the National Chief Imam that assisted in ensuring peace in the Gbi Traditional area.
He said there can be no development in conflict prone areas, saying, the construction of the Eastern corridor, which passes through Hohoe, will automatically open up the Hohoe Township where businesses are likely to flourish, which will invariably empower the people economically, he stressed.
