Hajia Ramatu Bunkata, Magajia of the Ghanaian Zongo community in the United States of America (USA), has decried the low level of educational development in Zongo communities.
She said it was high time stakeholders worked hard to improve on the situation and called on Ghanaian Muslims in the Diaspora to join hands and invest in the sector.
This, she said, would help address the high rate of illiteracy, ignorance and school drop-outs, to give the youth a meaningful life in future.
Hajia Bunkata made the call when she paid a courtesy call on the Ashanti Regional Zongo Chief, Alhaji Umar Farouk at his palace in Kumasi.
She said the Ghanaian Zongo community in the USA plans to institute a scholarship scheme to assist needy but brilliant pupils and students in their educational and career development.
Hajia Bunkata appealed to residents of Zongo communities to live peacefully with each other to foster social harmony.
"They should also at all times keep their surroundings clean to help curtail the incidence of communicable diseases", she said.
Alhaji Farouk thanked the Magajia for her continuous support for the Zongo communities and pledged to collaborate with her in the development programmes to benefit the people.Source: GNA
