The Ghana Friendship Association of Edmonton in Canada has $20,000 to the Ghana Covid-19 Fund.
This is to help government efforts in the fight against the pandemic.
President of the Association of Edmonton, Keli Tamaklo, said Ghanaians in Edmonton donated as their contribution to complement government’s efforts.
“Covid-19 is real, and the fight for struggling and vulnerable people should involve all of us,” Tamaklo said.
Ghana’s High commissioner to Canada, Ayikoi Otoo commended the group for their efforts and urged other Ghanaian associations there to emulate them.
“The fight against the pandemic is not sole responsibility of the government”, he said.
“We can only defeat this pandemic when we all come together with a common goal. This donation will go a long way to fight Covid-19 in Ghana,” Ayikoi Otoo added.
Vice President of the Association, Evelyn Obuobi commended the Ghana government’s efforts in fighting the virus given the little resources available.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo in his regular address to the nation launched the Covid-19 Fund “to receive contributions and donations from the public to assist in the welfare of the needy and the vulnerable.”
Government has also released ¢100 million to help fight the pandemic.
Ayikoi Otoo who received the money through the High Commission has since deposited the amount into the Covid-19 Fund account in Ghana.
He said, “Ghanaians will never forget what their kinsmen in Edmonton have done in the fight against Covid-19 for them.”
The Ghana Friendship Association of Edmonton is made up of Ghanaians in and around the metropolitan city of Edmonton in the province of Alberta Canada.
