The Ashanti Regional Police Command is giving 4,000 Ghana cedis as a reward to informants who provided the police with some vital information that the police say has been useful in their fight against crime.
The command is also offering an additional 2,000 Ghana cedis to the joint police–military night patrol team for its efforts in combating and prevention crime in the Ashanti Region.
The unidentified informants have had the opportunity to meet the Inspector General of Police where he showed his appreciation for their communalism.
Regional Commander, DCOP Patrick Timbilla told he media that the reward is in fulfillment of a promise made by the Inspector General of Police to adequately reward informants.
He commended the public for their co-oporation and support in providing information to the police. DCOP Timbilla also commended personnel for their selfless contribution to the cause of promoting peace and security.
Eight armed robbers were killed a fortnight ago in a gun battle with the police on the Kumasi-Anwiankwanta-Bekwai road after the robbers mounted road blocks to rob travelers on that road.
Less than a week later, another robber, Awudu Karim, identified by the police as the most wanted criminal in the region, was also gunned down after engaging the police in a shootout.
According to DCOP Timbilla, the successes chalked by the command in recent times in combating crime especially armed robbery, cannot be over-emphasized without the public especially the press.
