The Ghana National Fire Service has debunked a publication of the Daily Searchlight which alleged that workers of the Greater Accra Regional Fire Service were up in arms against their Regional Fire Commander, Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Ekow Blankson.
GNFS says ACFO Blankson is a seasoned Fire Officer and before he assumed office as Greater Accra Regional Commander, he served in various responsible capacities including the Deputy National Operations Officer of the service as well as Volta and Eastern Regional Fire Commander.
According to the publication, about 50 angry personnel of the service were alleging that ACFO Blankson’s position as the Greater Accra Region was too big for him.
A statement copied to Asempa News and signed by the Public Relations department of the GNFS said the publication was a figment of the imagination of one individual with a malicious motive to tarnish the image of the hardworking, results-oriented Accra Regional Fire Commander.
“There is no group involved in this and the allegation is false,” it said.
The newspaper story alleged the Regional Fire Officer had embezzled money but could not give evidence of how much money he had embezzled.
GNFS also refuted the allegation that Mr. Blankson had divided the Safety Department and he uses his favourite people ostensibly for his parochial interest whiles others do the donkey work.
The GNFS maintained that the Daily Searchlight story was absolutely malicious, false and unfounded and asked the paper to retract the story and apologize to the Regional Fire Commander, ACFO Ekow Blankson.
