The appointment of Edward Bawa as Group CEO of Goil Group by President John Dramani Mahama has generated excitement among staff at the oil company.
Speaking to Joy News on condition of anonymity, several employees described Mr Bawa’s appointment as “a huge relief.”
They accused the former MD, Jacob Kwabena Adjei, of alleged mismanagement and a leadership style they deemed authoritarian and dismissive of staff concerns. Some workers raised serious questions about governance during Mr Adjei’s tenure.
In line with President Mahama’s vision of resetting the country, the employees are calling for an investigation into Adjei’s administration to ensure accountability. While the specific allegations were not disclosed, they revealed that a formal complaint had been submitted to the ORAL team, requesting a full-scale inquiry into his leadership.
For now, staff remain hopeful that under Mr Bawa’s leadership, Goil Group will experience positive reforms, improved staff relations, and a reduction in corruption within the company.
Mr. Bawa, who served as a Member of Parliament for the Bongo Constituency from 2017 to 2024, brings a wealth of experience to his new role, the staff believe.
He previously led communications for the World Bank’s oil and gas capacity-building initiative at the Ministry of Petroleum in Accra.
The new MD holds a Bachelor of Education in Chemistry from the University of Cape Coast and a Master of Business Administration in Business Finance from the University of Liverpool.
Before this appointment, he was the Acting CEO of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, a role he assumed on January 17, 2025.
