Mr. Japheth Baidoo, Western Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), has noted that lack of coordination between government agencies mainly affected disaster management in the country.
He said the situation had accounted for the numerous avoidable disasters that had plagued the country over the years.
Mr. Japheth Baidoo, who was speaking at a press briefing to mark the World Disaster Reduction Day in Takoradi, called for proper collaboration between key stakeholders in disaster management to ensure safety.
The theme for this year’s celebration was: “Making Cities
Resilient: My City is Getting Ready”.
Mr.Baidoo said the Regional NADMO had created a platform for all governmental agencies to contribute to the management of disaster challenges that were hampering development.
He said NADMO would carry out the campaign in collaboration with local Government agencies to reduce cities’ risk to disasters.
Mr. Baidoo called on technical officers of the various district assemblies to take disaster management seriously, especially regarding disaster-prone areas.
