Government today secured a 107.50 million Euros loan facility from Germany to support the country’s economic development agenda. The three-year concessionary loan will support projects between 2009 and 2011 with special focus on five key areas including rural branchless banking and an out grower value chain fund. Most of the funds will however go to directly support the budget. Minister of Finance Dr. Kwabena Duffuor signed the agreement on behalf of government. He expressed gratitude to the German government for support. The German Ambassador Ebernard Schanze who signed on behalf of his country said he hopes the fund will help move the country from a service based to an industrialized economy. “What we are looking for is a strengthening of the base of the Ghanaian economy – fighting poverty and preparing the ground for growth,” he said.
