Sheikh I.C. Quaye, Greater Accra Regional Minister on Friday presented GH¢10,000 to fire disaster victims at Swalaba in the Ashiedu-Keteke sub-metro district of Accra.
The fire, which gutted the area last Saturday, affected the Haruna Nelson Building containing over 50 rooms and destroyed several properties.
Sheikh Quaye told the affected that government saw their situation as a peculiar one which needed to be supported to help in reconstruction. "Government sees your case as a peculiar one, but do not think that the money has come for free," he said.
Mr Ben Brown, NADMO Regional Coordinator, said two officials had been appointed to help in disbursing the money and every recipient was expected to provide a picture and his signature for accountability.
Mr Edward Musa Nelson who received the donation on behalf of the victims, thanked the government for coming to their aid at a time when they needed help.
Among those who visited the victims were Nii Adjiri Blankson, AMA Chief Executive and Ms Theresa Tagoe, MP for Ablekuma South.
In a related development, the team inspected work on the construction of the Old Winneba Road to have first hand information on the progress of work pending the Ghana 2008 football fiesta.
The Project Manager, Mr Bu Zhaging assured the team the dual carriage road would be completed in May 2008.
