13 goals in matchday 7, 110 goals in total. Kotoko win, Ashgold lose, All Stars win. What did we learn this week?

TOO EARLY TO JUDGE MICHAEL OSEI
This is not to undermine the work of Michael Osei, but it will be too early to hail him as a miracle worker. The Porcupines showed great character and resolve to come from behind to beat an in-form Liberty Professionals but in all honesty, this was a game Kotoko were never going to lose even under Duncan and the statistics suggests so. Kotoko’s ailing start to the season has been down to their poor away form where there have lost all three games. At home, they are yet to lose with their worst result being a draw. In this regard, Kotoko were going to pick up at least a point. Their next game is an away fixture to Dreams in Dawu. This will be the real test and this will be indicative of how the team has progressed under Osei. Anything apart from a defeat will symbolize progression for the Porcupines.

GOLDEN CITY PARK REMAINS SUPREME
Berekum Chelsea are the only side in the league to have a hundred per cent home record. The Berekum’s side 1-0 win over regional rivals confirmed their home superiority thus far. Solomon Odwo’s side have already accounted for Medeama, Kotoko and WAFA at Berekum and will be confident of mounting a title charge should they maintain this fine home run. At the heart of this impressive home run is Saddick Adams who has scored three goals at the Golden City Park already. In addition to his goals, he is a proven life saver and one of his patients, Awisome Fumador, came off the bench to clinch all three points for Chelsea this weekend.

MOZART THE STOPPER
Dreams FC keeper is gradually becoming the go to man in terms of penalty saves in the league. The former Heart of Lions keeper has a 100 percent record in penalty saves after keeping Ashantigold’s Shafiu Mumuni at bay. This comes after he kept out Wahab Akwei’s penalty against Inter Allies on matchday 3. Penalties have a great deal of luck about it and at the moment, lady luck is smiling on Mozart. These saves could come in handy at the end of the season. H has currently helped his club to four points out of six in these two matches with the saves.

ASHANTIGOLD IN TROUBLE
League Champions Ashantigold are in trouble after suffering a second straight loss. The team have been putting up insipid performances in the opening weeks of the league and they have finally been found out. A 5-1 demolition at the hands of Liberty Professionals has been quickly followed with a 1-0 home loss to Dreams. What makes this defeat more precarious is the fact they lost at home. In a league where everyone strives to pick points at home because of the tricky nature of away ties, a loss could be detrimental come end of season. The Miners have picked one win in seven and that was in their scrappy 2-1 win over Medeama. Very “unBashiru Hayford like”. There are problems and the sooner they are rectified, the better it would be for the Miners.

HERBERT ADDO’S TEAM CAN SCORE
Inter Allies had suffered back to back defeats in the league prior to this matchday but they made amends with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Bechem United. The most interesting aspect of this victory was the fact that they had four different scorers. Isaac Twum, Ropapa Mensah, Gockhel Ahortor and Prince Baffoe were all involved in the goal scoring. This is indicative of a team that has goals in them and it comes as no surprise they currently top the goal scoring chart with 12 goals in 7 matches. The responsibility of goals have been spread evenly across the front four who have all chipped in with at least two goals each. The quartet will be instrumental to Inter Allies’ survival this season.

BOTTOM THREE’S PROBLEM IS GOALS
It is no rocket science that goals wins tournaments, cups and leagues and at the moment that is the bane of the three bottom clubs. After seven games, Bechem United, New Edubiase and Ebusua Dwarfs have all scored four goals. This return is highly unproductive for a team seeking survival. It is early days yet but these three clubs will have to find an antidote to their bareness of stare relegation in the face. Five points separate eighth from sixteenth, with a few more goals comes with a few more points which leads to a higher ranking on the table. Easier said than done, but all these teams have to perfect the art of goal scoring at their training grounds.

KUDOS TO WAHAB ADAMS
The biggest talking point this weekend was Wahab Adams’ transition from defender to goalkeeper. The Dormaa side had gone a goal down when substitute keeper Celestine Damptey got injured. Damptey had come in to replace the injured Stephen Adams, and Aduana were left with no option but to force an outfield player in goal. Up stepped Wahab Adams who performed admirably in goal and most importantly, kept the scoreline as it was. This will be a feather in the defender’s cup and will certainly be the only Aduana player to leave Berekum with his head held high.
