The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) expects to complete its roll out plan in establishing segmented operational offices across the country, by end of this year as part of the integration and modernization process.
Taxpayers would be grouped into large, medium and small categories to serve special needs at one stop under the Domestic Tax Revenue, Customs and Support Services Divisions.
Deputy Commissioner, Policy and Programs, Nii Ayi Aryeetey, says improved customer care will play central role in the re-engineering of the nation’s revenue mobilization hub.
“The idea is to attend to taxpayers with addressing their common needs on the basis of their size and complexity of their business”, he told Luv Biz Report.
The large taxpayer office caters for businesses with annual turnover exceeding Gh₵5million; medium taxpayers are those whose turnover falls between Gh₵90,000 and Gh₵5million; whilst those below Gh₵90,000 are categorized as small taxpayers.
The GRA hopes the small taxpayer office will rope in majority of informal sector businesses as well as help improve the management and accounting practices of the sector.
As part of a corporate goal to achieve maximum voluntary tax compliance, the GRA is reviewing and simplifying tax laws to reduce obstacles to compliance.
These laws include the VAT Law, the Revenue Administration Act, the Income Tax Law, the Customs Law and the Excise Law.
