Graduates of tertiary institutions have been urged not to just walk out of school with their degrees and certificates but exhibit their talents in a way that will impact society.

Speaking at the 8^th Congregation of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), Special Guest of Honour and Managing Director (MD) of Stanbic Bank, Alhassan Adani advised graduates to set the right agenda as journalists to move Ghana forward.

“For me, quality education is that piece of education that unleashes you to do something and to galvanize community to do something; Most of us just will walk out with the degree or diploma and wait to be told what to do,’’ he said.

According to him, society is enriched by what “sits in all of us’’ and what quality education creates or brings out. “When you get out of quality education your deeds must move to another level that advances your person and the society,’’ he advised the graduates.

Mr. Adani noted that quality education is when after school one is able to take initiatives based on the education they have received and galvanize society in that direction.

He further challenged the graduates not to be despondent, waiting for a job.

“I want the graduates to remember that they have just joined the one-third privilege few in the world; it’s just one-third of the world’s population that gets to hold a higher degree from a tertiary institution,’’ he said.

‘’People must always wake up in a day filling that day with something worthwhile and not be despondent…,’’ he added.

Mr. Adani also mentioned that Stanbic Bank associates itself to the Ghana Institute of Journalism because it [GIJ] positions itself at the ‘’heart of everything that we do as a country’’.

He acknowledged that journalists touch and impact the life of every Ghanaian, hence they should see the crucial role they play in the development of Ghana.

Rector of the school, Dr. Wilberforce Dzisah said that the school is on course with its infrastructure development agenda despite the financial challenges.

A total of Four Hundred and Sixty Four (464) students for both the Diploma and Degree programmes in Communication Studies.graduated on Saturday. Out of this number, 310 are females while 144 are males.

The theme for the ceremony was “Higher Education; Enhancing Access and Quality.’’
