The Swedru Circuit Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the CEO of Greenland Hotel, Dr Eyiah.
The arrest warrant was issued following Dr Eyiah’s refusal to appear before the court after he had been served with criminal summons by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), for non-payment of GH¢94,968.44, being the Social Security contributions and penalty of the employees of Greenland Hotel Ltd, as of July, 2010.
The Accra North Area Manager of SSNIT, Mrs Rosemary A. Sackey, in an interview, stressed her outfit’s resolve to facilitate the arrest of Dr Eyiah and put him before the court to answer the charges levelled against him.
She added that to ensure the economic security of the employees of Greenland Hotel, it was very critical to cause the arrest of Dr Eyiah.
Mrs Sackey further indicated that though Dr Eyiah paid GH¢40,000 out of the total debt, a recent inspection update depicted an increase in his total indebtedness for workers contribution arrears and penalty to the tune of GH¢87,801.41 as of December, 2012.
“He is obliged under the National Pensions Act of 2008, Act 766, to pay this amount to SSNIT,’’ she emphasised.
