GTV staff still in arm bands despite NMC promise to investigate the current impasse between staff of the radio news room and those in the Television news roomThe Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC) says the commission will look into the current impasse at the state broadcaster, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.Staff of the TV newsroom have been wearing red arm bands since Monday to register their displeasure at the method used in carrying out a restructuring exercise at the station. The Deputy Director General, Anane Sarpong, is reported to have ordered that a staff from the radio department of the corporation read the midday news on Sunday. This did not go down well with the news editor who engaged in verbal exchanges with Mr Sarpong leading to a 25-minute delay in Sunday’s midday news.Speaking on the issue on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Tuesday, Chairman of the NMC, Kabral Blay Amihere described it as unfortunate saying it will look into it.“The Media Commission as a body is certainly going to examine all these issues, and as a consensus building institution, we need to take our time because we should not in our desire to improve the situation be in haste. Of course we should not also be too slow,” he indicated. He said however that all is not gloomy at the state broadcaster as they are still doing very well having produced and nurtured some of the best radio and TV presenters Ghana has ever seen.Mr Amihere also used the opportunity to talk about his book, Between the Lion and the Elephant which will be officially launched on Wednesday.
