Employment and Labour Relations Minister Haruna Iddrisu has said the victory by Gen, Muhammadu Buhari over incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan in the just ended Presidential elections in Nigeria will not in any way affect the chances of President John Mahama in the 2016 general election.
According to him the NPP's assertion that, the victory for the Nigerian opposition leader is a sign of good omen for Akufo-Addo in 2016 is misplaced.
He said such inferences and conclusions are farfetched and that Ghanaians are going to retain President Mahama in government based on his interventions and infrastructure deliveries across the country.
Haruna Iddrisu who is also the Member of Parliament for Tamale South was addressing NDC party supporters to round off his Easter tour of the constituency.
“One will want to dismiss as illogical and imaginary if not whimsical the kind of conclusions that many people have come to. ..I am extremely optimistic that President Mahama will deliver on his core pledges to the people of Ghana. The particular attention which is occupying his attention is fixing the current energy crisis and getting the country on course” he said.
Mr Iddrisu said the contest and circumstances of the Nigerian elections are not same as what pertains in the country and the issues and concerns are equally not same.
He said President Mahama is working to improve the living conditions of Ghanaians as promised in his manifesto pledge.
The Tamale South MP also said the IMF bailout approval will stabilize the local currency and improve the macro-economic performance of the country.
