For many among the hundreds of workers who joined in the first Joy FM Big Workout, instituted as a quarterly workout meet, the joy of wriggling, twisting and turning the body as well as stretching and straining muscles and sinews was a big, big break from self-imposed boredom.
The broad smiles on the faces of both young and old, chief executives and your regular factory hands told it all as they danced to various genres of music adapted for exercise - slow and fast - and it was apparent some were exercising for the first time in a decade or more.
Between exercises, and there were good varieties of them, some who doubted they could cope with one particular exercise or set of motions would momentarily hesitate, then observe their instructors before slowly moving their bodies in unison, and then splash broad smiles as if to confirm “oh yes I am doing it all by myself.”
And then for a minute or two “lecture” on the essence of regular exercises, good eating habits and other healthy lifestyles as basic non-negotiables for good health and longevity, heads nodded repeatedly in confirmation of the great lessons they picked.
And all this came after about an hour of brisk walking from the Independence Square through Wato, detouring at the General Post Office into the High Street and back to the Independence Square for the aerobics.
The Joy FM Big Workout was sponsored by Cowbell, Starbow Airlines, McDan Shipping, Mobile Water, Erke Sports, Vanguard Assurance and Eden Hospital.
Other corporate institutions that participated in the exercise were Databank, Jandel, Joyprim Micro Finance, MET Insurance, Star Life and many others.
Watch at for the next edition of the Joy FM Big Workout, fashioned to promote good health and healthy habits.
