Accra Hearts of Oak tamed Medeama FC by two goals to nil to lift this year’s Presidents Cup played at the Accra Sports Stadium.
A brace by Glo league golden boot winner Mahatma Otoo ensured that the Phobians will pick up, at least one silverware in the season, having lost out on the Glo league title as well as the MTN FA cup title.
Robert Gnagne had the opportunity to increase the Phobian tally to three but fluffed a second half penalty.
The game was swift and fluid with both teams exhibiting superb team performance but it was a moment of indecision on the part of the Medeama goalie that spelt doom for the Sunyani based side.
The goal keeper handled the ball just outside the 18 yard box and gave away a needless indirect free-kick.
Mahatma Otoo stepped up and fired a low powerful shot through the wall and zoomed straight into the post for Hearts’ opener early in the first half.
Few minutes later, Otoo increased Hearts’ tally with an intelligent first touch from an immaculate, well laid pass on the left by Gnagne.
Medeama were not to be overawed at all. They played well but lacked ideas upfront to unlock the Hearts defence. 2-0 it ended in favour of the Phobians.
In the third place match, Congolese side TP Mazembe beat Nigerian side Enugu Rangers 2-0 to win bronze.
