The Catholic Archbishop of Kumasi, Most Rev. Thomas Mensah has observed that the bombardment of the Ghanaian society by the homosexual culture is ‘an antichrist sexual revolution’ which should be resisted. He has therefore charged political, traditional and religious leaders to have the courage to condemn the practice in order to safeguard the sustainable development of the country. The Archbishop was delivering a sermon on the theme: “The Catholic Priesthood in the Face of the Global Sexual Cultural Revolution”, at the ordination to the Priesthood at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Kwadaso, Kumasi. “We in Ghana, together with our government of today and tomorrow, and with the support of our revered traditional rulers, should resist all public and private diplomacy and other approaches to support this evil practice of homosexuality. People who practice this abominable lifestyle should be helped like the victims of HIV/AIDS – we should show them compassion but not encourage it”, he stated. Most Rev. Mensah also appealed to political and traditional leaders “to manage our natural resources and human resources well, so that we shall not be driven to take on political and economic slavery a second time in our 21st century with its obvious consequences”. The Catholic Archbishop also charged religious leaders, especially Catholic Priests to develop the courage to lead the combat between ‘life and death’. “The Gospel must be lived without compromise” he stated, emphasizing that “this must start with the priest. The Church, which is the salt of the earth, is the Church that is faithful to the Lord Jesus… Although the Church does not have the power to change the course of the world governance, it does have the power to protect itself and her members against the harmful influence of immoral and unethical practices and lifestyle which are opposed to the Magisterium of the Church and to revelation”. Describing homosexuality as a new culture of unbelief emanating from Western countries, Most Rev. Mensah charged the peoples and leaders of Africa to rise against the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission, an advocacy group which has found its place at the United Nations. “We, the people of the so-called developing world, are the majority of the members of the UN and we should not sit down and allow a minority, radical lobbyists to override our traditions, cultures and faith. The ‘Culture of Death’ and, of course, the ‘Death of God’ or Godlessness initiated by the philosopher Nietzsche leading to the death of man which is now at our doorsteps. “The time has now come for man to sell his soul to the god of genetic engineering, in vitro fertilization, human cloning, etc.; and if this is allowed to go on, where is the future of humanity?” The Archbishop questioned.
