A marriage described by the police as conflict-ridden, came to a bloody end in an uncompleted building at Taifa, a suburb of Accra on Monday evening.
Neighbours of the bitter couple told the Daily Graphic that they were attracted to the bushy household by the screaming of the couples' 10-year-old daughter, only to meet the battered body of the woman, identified as Rose Kwakyewaa, alias Afia Rose, aged 30, lying face down in a pool of blood, with her intestines gushing out and a deep wound on her forehead.
They said Kwakyewaa's 51-year-old husband, Kofi Donkor, alias Abuom Burger, who was suspected of the murder, had at that time bolted but police sources said he returned to the crime scene the following morning to attempt suicide.
However, Donkor, a stone quarry worker in Accra and native of Agona Kwamang, near Swedru, who was said to have had a quarrelsome relationship with his wife, stemming from accusations of infidelity on the part of the woman, failed in his suicide bid after stabbing his abdomen with a knife.
He was writhing in pain when the police arrived at the scene, where he was found alive in a pool of blood. He was taken to the Police Hospital for treatment.
According to the Accra Regional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Boi-Bi-Boi, the deceased and the suspect had been married for over two years with an issue aged two but Rose had a 10-year-old child from a previous marriage.
He said at about 5.00 p.m. on Tuesday, the 10-year-old girl, called Obaa Yaa, entered the room and found her mother lying in a pool of blood so she screamed, which attracted some neighbours to the room.
Chief Supt Boi-Bi-Boi said the police were called in and a search in one of the rooms revealed a crow bar with blood stains on it.
He said the body was conveyed to the Police Hos¬pital mortuary, while preparations were made to publish the picture of the suspect as a wanted man. Then the police had information that the suspect had returned to the house and used a kitchen knife to stab himself in an attempt to kill himself.
He said a team of policemen was quickly dispatched to the scene where the suspect was found in a pool of blood and he was rushed to the Police Hospital where he was admitted.
