The Tema Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old house help and three accomplices, who carried out an armed robbery at Tema Community 12 a fortnight ago.
Eugene Keteku, the house help and Lawrence Jerry Amuzu alais JJ, a 22-year-old trader, Francis Kpogo, 20-year-old labourer and Francis Worname, 20-year-old student of the Community Eight number four Junior High School robbed the victims of 53,000 US dollars and GH¢ 4,000.
Other items stolen were two mobile phones a DVD player and personal belongings.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) John Kudalor, Tema Regional Commander, at a press briefing on Monday, said five young armed robbers wielding machetes, gun and cudgels entered the house at about 0230 hours, on September 24, unleashed terror on the household and took away the cash and items.
DCOP Kudalor said the Community Two crime scene team arrested Keteku and Amuzu at a rendezvous when he went to handover Keteku’s share of the booty at Ashaiman on 4 October.
The Regional Police Commander said Worname and Kpogo were also apprehended at their hideout in Ashaiman and the military dresses they wore for the robbery were retrieved from them.
According to DCOP Kudalor the suspects admitted that they planned the robbery with the house help whose role was to unlock the main gate and entrance door to the apartment at midnight in order for them to enter the house.
He said the police were working hard to arrest other two suspects at large.
DCOP Kudalor advised the public to be careful about people they employ as house helps, security personnel.
He also cautioned the public against buying stolen items and advised individuals and small scale entrepreneurs to desist from keeping large sums of money on them and at home.
