Hundreds of residents of Kenyase in the Bono Ahafo region on Sunday took to the streets to protest President John Mahama's nomination of Eric Odai as Chief Executive for Asutifi-North District Assembly.
The residents declared their resolve to use available means to block attempts to "impose" the nominee on them.
Bawa Issaka, Asutifi-North Constituency Secretary for the ruling National Democratic Congress told JOYNEWS, Mr. Eric Odai "is not the right person to head the Assembly".
"We won't allow him to be imposed on us," Bawa Issaka stressed, while accusing the President's nominee of causing disaffection among party members in the area.
He said the party had officially written to its headquarters in Accra to communicate the members' disapproval for the appointment of Eric Odai but "we have not heard any response yet.
In another development, police in Salaga in the Northern Region have beefed up security after a group of irate youth allegedly vanderlised property belonging to the party and set a vehicle ablaze, to register their displeasure at the president's nominee.
Public Relations Officer, Ebenezer Tetteh told JOYNEWS calm had returned, but they are not taking chances.
