Award-winning broadcast journalist and former news anchor with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) Gifty Anti has dismissed reports that she intends to contest the Ajumako Constituency seat on the ticket of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
She said she has no intentions of contesting the primaries and that the reports are totally false.
Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show ‘Dwaso Nsem’, the former news anchor said although her late mother hails from a village in the constituency, she is not involved in any political activity there.
She noted that the only thing she does in the village is the frequent visits she pays to her mother’s grave side, aside that there is nothing more to it, she added.
Gifty Anti said she does not even hold any political party’s card and is not known to be a member of any party; therefore it is impossible for her to want to contest on any party’s ticket.
Reports circulating in the media indicate that some well known names in the media as well as the communications sector have expressed their interest to contest certain parliamentary seats on the ticket of the NPP.
The names include lead counsel for the NPP in the 2012 Election Petition, Phillip Addison and his colleague Egbert Faibille Jnr.
Former host of Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, journalist and Managing Editor of the Daily Searchlight newspaper Ken Kuranchie as well as former Chief Operating Officer of Glo Ghana and a leading member of pressure group, OccupyGhana. George Andah,
George Andah’s confirmation of the news that he will contest the Awutu Senya West constituency on the ticket of the NPP has raised several concerns due to his affiliation with pressure group Occupy Ghana.
But he says he believes that upholding the values of Occupy Ghana makes him a better Ghanaian for public office.
Legal practitioner Egbert Faibille Jnr and Ken Kuranchie have also confirmed their intentions to contest the Weija/Gbawe and Okaikoi North constituencies respectively.
Phillip Addison has also confirmed his intentions and started campaigning vigorously for the Korley Klote constituency seat on the ticket of the NPP.
