Felix Afena-Gyan says he wants to prove himself and do more in future after he scored a remarkable brace to give AS Roma a 2-0 win away to Genoa on Sunday.
The 18-year-old had two substitute appearances under his belt when he was brought on with 15 minutes to play at Marassi with the score tied at 0-0.
He latched unto a well timed Henrikh Mkhitaryan pass, slotting his effort into the bottom corner. He went on to add a second with the last kick of the game placing his curler into the far top corner.
Felix as a result becomes the first player born in 2003 to find the net in Serie A, let alone to bag a brace, and even he seemed incredulous.
“Tonight is a dream come true. It was my first goal, I was hoping for a very long time. I want to continue my performance, prove myself and do more in future,” the striker told DAZN after the final whistle.
“I thank God for this opportunity he gave me, the team, the coach, the fans, players for their amazing support. I also want to say thank you Mom, she is in Ghana, I love you."
He ran straight to the touchline to hug his coach Mourinho, who promoted him from the Roma Primavera youth last month.
“Mourinho is a great person, a great manager and a great coach. He gives you the motivation to learn every day. I am very happy he is here.
