Former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central, Ebenezer Nartey, has expressed support for the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, in the wake of the ongoing controversy surrounding his allegations of illicit dealings by two aircraft that recently flew in and out of Ghana.

Speaking on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning, Mr Nartey stressed that Rev. Fordjour would not have addressed the matter publicly if he did not have credible information.

“I will be extremely surprised if he had no facts. He wouldn't come out to lead a press conference without concrete evidence,” Mr Nartey said.

“He stated the time the plane arrived, the date everything. He laid it all out clearly, all the necessary information was provided.”

The issue, which has sparked public concern, drew a lot of attention after President John Mahama posted a tweet urging security agencies to act swiftly and investigate the matter.

However, Mr Nartey criticised what he sees as a lack of follow-through. “Till now, we have not heard if the security agencies have begun any investigations,” he said.

Drawing comparisons to previous summons, Mr Nartey questioned why the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) had not taken similar steps in this case.

“Recently, the Speaker of Parliament wrote to the NIB to meet A Plus and Yussif, saying they could even meet them in Parliament. So why can’t they do the same for Rev. Fordjour? This is a serious issue, we are talking about drugs, about money laundering,” he said.

Mr Nartey also called on President Mahama to take a more proactive stance in this case.

“Before the election of the Speaker, Mahama instructed his people to vote for Bagbin. So why can’t he now call the Speaker and urge him to prioritise this matter? What is stopping him?”

He called on President Mahama and his administration to act swiftly to reassure the public.

“For me, I believe Ghanaians expect the President to ensure the security agencies get to the bottom of this. I even asked Rev Fordjour directly if he would cooperate if called, and he said he’s ready to provide more information,” he said.
