The Inspector General of Police, Paul Tawiah Quaye has dispatched a team of senior police personnel to Nankpanduri in the Northern Region to assess the extent of collateral damage in a special police operation there last Wednesday.
According to residents the police burnt their homes and subjected them to ill-treatment during a swoop to arrest notorious armed robber and cop killer, Johnson Kombian.
The fugitive is responsible for the death of two officers.
Police Director General in charge of Human Resource, Dr. Peter Wiredu, told Joy News the team has been tasked to verify the allegations against the police.
He said the team is accompanied by a “team of six seasoned investigators from our Crime Scene Management Unit.”
The team is headed by the Acting Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), DCOP Prosper Ablorh.
Dr. Wiredu also said the IGP has welcomed an independent enquiry into the incident.
