There was drama at the St Joseph Miracle Clinic in Hohoe in the Volta Region when patients said to be receiving treatment from a quack doctor declined the offer to be transferred to an approved hospital. The eight patients would rather be treated by the quack doctor because they have been there with him for years and they trust him, an official of the Medical and Dental Council told Myjoyonline.com.Officials of the Council accompanied by personnel of the Hohoe Police had gone to the clinic to arrest Mr Joseph Kamasah, the quack doctor said to be in charge of the St Joseph Miracle Clinic. At the time of the arrest, there were four women and two men on admission at the wards, while a male and two females were under observation at the OPD section. To the surprise of the joint team of police personnel and officials at the Medical Council, the patients refused to be transferred to the Hohoe General Hospital. They would rather go home with their sickness if their doctor would not be allowed to take care of them. After persistent appeals by the crime officer, the patients finally agreed to be transferred to the Hohoe General Hospital.Kamasah was arrested and is due for prosecution on Thursday.Exhibits including, medicines, stethoscope, patient folders and records were retrieved from the clinic. The Registrar at the Medical and Dental Council Dr Eli Atikpui, told Myjoyonline.com, the arrest was part of measures to rid the medical profession of quacks. He said the Council will take similar actions to sanitize the medical profession.
