The Economic Fighters League (EFL) has broken its silence following the conclusion of the Ayawaso East by-election, issuing a stern warning that the victory of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) does not signal an end to the "struggle for integrity".

In a press statement released on Tuesday, 3rd March 2026, the group acknowledged the election outcome while critiquing the systemic reliance on financial influence within Ghanaian democracy.

The by-election, which was generally marked by a "low voter turnout", was triggered by the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure, in January 2026.

Led by Commander-in-Chief Ernesto Yeboah, the Fighters maintained that their opposition to the political status quo remains a matter of "principle, not personalities". The group argued that the current electoral model, which they dubbed "money-based politics", serves to weaken the very foundations of democracy.

“Money-based politics, regardless of who benefits, weakens democracy and sustains the very system that has produced the #YouthAndJobs crisis,” the statement read, highlighting the ongoing economic plight of the nation’s younger generation.

Despite the EFL’s revolutionary critique, the NDC’s Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed secured a decisive hold on the constituency.

Pre-election surveys from Global InfoAnalytics had projected Jamal to take as much as 75 per cent of the vote, successfully fending off his primary rival, Baba Ali Yussif of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
