Head of the Planning Department at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Dr. Kwaku Dwomoh Kesse, has re-affirmed the need for the government to invest in solar and wind energy.
Dr Kesse said government must seriously consider alternative energy sources as a long-term solution to the current energy crisis.
Ghana has been facing serious power crisis resulting in rationing since August 2006. This is as a result of the receding water level of the Akosombo hydroelectric dam. The water level in the dam has hit the lowest mark in over 20 years.
Dr Kesse said over-reliance on the dam accounts for the crisis. He called on government to urgently invest in solar and wind energy.
