A programme to sensitize the general public on the deadly Ebola disease as well as cholera has been launched in the northern part of Ghana.
The Behavioural Change Communication (BCC) intervention aims to use evidence-based strategies to educate the people on the prevention of cholera as well as the avoidance of Ebola.
The Institute for Social Research and Development (ISRAD) held the first phase of Stakeholder meetings in Wa and Bolgatanga, regional capitals for the Upper West and East regions respectively.
ISRAD and its partners with support from DFID is currently implementing these interventions in the three northern regions of Ghana.
In Wa, the Upper West Regional Disease Control Officer, John Makpe stated that although the region like the rest of Ghana has not recorded any Ebola case, about 20 cholera cases with one death have been recorded so far.
He added that it was, therefore, important that the region takes steps to be on guard against these two diseases.
The acting Upper West Regional Director of Health Services, Peter Boateng tasked all stakeholders to do their bit to ensure that the project succeeds.
The final stakeholder meeting is to be held in Tamale on November 25.
