Japan Motors Trading Company Ltd. (JMTC) has held a grand ceremony to officially launch the Geely vehicle brand in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s automotive industry.
The occasion also saw the unveiling of four new exciting Geely models: the Geely Starray, Emgrand, and the locally assembled Geely Coolray and the Coolray Neo to great anticipation of guests present. Special Guest of honour was His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II who was represented by Oheneba Yaw Owusu Ansah (Abrenyasehene).
Addressing Guests, Nouhad Kalmoni, Executive Director of Japan Motors, described the occasion as a celebration of innovation, local empowerment, and quality automotive solutions. “Today’s launch is not just about new vehicles, it is about giving our customers a wider, better choice,” he said. “The Coolray and Coolray Neo, assembled right here in Ghana, symbolize our commitment to local production, job creation, and national pride.”
Geely, a global automotive powerhouse with partnerships with brands like Volvo and Lotus, brings world-class engineering and design to the Ghanaian market. The company is also pioneering investments in electric and hybrid vehicle technologies, with plans to soon introduce Geely EV models to Ghana, reinforcing its commitment to a sustainable and eco-friendly future”.
Mr. Kalmoni announced that in a bid to ensure customer confidence, Japan Motors is offering an industry-leading 6-year or 200,000-kilometer warranty on all Geely models, backed by a highly trained sales and aftersales team ready to deliver exceptional service.
The General Manager of Sales & Marketing at Japan Motors, Amine Kabbara emphasized the momentum of the Geely brand since its recent launch in Accra. “The overwhelming response shows Geely’s strength and potential. Today, we proudly extend this success to Kumasi.”
Present were a top delegation from Geely Automobile International which included: The General Manager for West Africa-Scofield Wu, Geely Sales Manager-Louis Xiao and After-Sales Manager for West Africa-Eddie Zhu. Also present was Liu Juan, a Financial Partner to the Group.
Speaking on behalf of the Geely Automobile International team, Louis Xiao highlighted the company’s impressive global standing and continued growth in the international automotive industry. Geely, he said, oversees a robust portfolio of brands including Geely, Galaxy, Volvo, LYNK & CO, ZEEKR, Lotus, and Polestar. The group has earned a spot on the Fortune Global 500 for 12 consecutive years, ranking 225th in 2023, and remains the only Chinese automotive group featured in Brand Finance’s Top 10 Most Valuable Auto Portfolio Brands of 2023. Geely Holding Group just last year sold 2.79 million vehicles, while Geely Auto Group recorded 16.8 million units in sales. Among them, the oversees export is close to 300,000 units and as till October 2024 nearly 350,000 units exported overseas to over 70 countries and regions (Middle East, Asia-Pacific, Africa, Latin America and Europe).
Mr. Xiao emphasized Geely’s identity as a young, innovative, and globally minded enterprise, committed to delivering high-quality, future-forward mobility solutions. As part of its brand development strategy, Geely is proud to debut three models in the Ghanaian market that reflect its global design and engineering excellence: the Starray, new Coolray, and GX3 Pro. These models represent a blend of performance, efficiency, and modern aesthetics tailored to meet the needs of Ghanaian consumers.
Geely he assured will work closely with Japan Motors, renowned as one of the biggest auto groups in Ghana, together to focus on users, continuously improve product and service capabilities to bring more excellent car experience unto the Ghanaian market
Geely local Assembly to foster skilled employment
The Assistant Director at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, Francis Amoah who represented the Ashanti Regional Minister praised the local assembly initiative as aligned with Ghana’s industrialization and automotive development agenda.
“The local assembly of Geely models is a strategic move that fosters skilled employment and technological advancement,” he said and commended Japan Motors and the Geely Automobile International for such a fruitful partnership.
