Ghana international Jordan Ayew is set to work under a new manager at Crystal Palace following Roy Hodgson's decision to step down from his role due to illness.
Despite rising suspicion that the Eagles had lined up Oliver Glasner to succeed him, the 76-year-old was taken to the hospital last week after becoming ill following a training session.
With increasing demands of the job, the English manager has now decided to vacate his position as first-team manager.
"This club is very special and means so much to me and has played a big part in my footballing life," he said in a statement released by the club's official website.
"I have fully enjoyed my time here across six seasons as it has given me the chance to work with top-class players and staff doing what I love every day.
"However, I understand, given recent circumstances, it may be prudent at this time for the club to plan ahead.
"Therefore, I have taken the decision to step aside so that the club can bring forward their plans for a new manager, as intended for this summer."
Ayew started 21 out of 22 league games under Hodgson this season, scoring twice and providing five assists in the process.
His decision to step down have also seen the Eagles move quickly to confirm the appointment of Oliver Glasner with the Austrian manager expected to be in the attendance for the club's Premier League game against Everton on Monday night.
Palace currently sit 16th on the Premier League table, five points above the drop zone.
