Ghana’s oil and gas industry is fast-growing but a few understand how the sector works and count on journalists for updates.
As part of its oil and gas media training, leading oil exploration and production company, Tullow Ghana Ltd has sponsored five selected journalists to undertake Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET)
BOSIET is created to assist in meeting the initial offshore requirements for personnel new to the oil and gas industry. Included in the three-day course were helicopter survival, emergency first aid, sea survival, firefighting, self-rescue and lifeboat training.

Joy Business’ Daryl Kwawu was among the journalists who received training at SMTC Global Ghana LTD, Regional Maritime University (Nungua) from the 28th- 30th of November 2019.
“The helicopter survival training was the most difficult, but it helped me understand the hazards when offshore and appreciate the safety measures put in place to protect anyone against the risks and prevent potential disasters. I am grateful to Tullow for the experience”, Daryl said.

Other journalists that benefited from the training are Emmanuel Ohene Gyan (Empire FM), Akwasi Annim (Citi TV), Marie Aziz Tunde (GBC) and Jessica Acheampong (Daily Graphic)
Tullow Ghana said it remained committed to enhancing its relationship with the media and supporting the development of local capacity for mutual benefit.
The oil firm hopes to hold these training programmes very often.
