Your super station JOY 99.7 FM on Wednesday rolled out activities to mark its 15 years' anniversary celebration in a grand style. The station, which has carved the niche for itself as a pacesetter in private radio, has consolidated its lead rolling out the best programmes presented by some of the finest broadcasters in the country. The celebration is under the theme: “Making a Joyful Difference In Radio.” The launching at the premises of Joy FM, attracted some of the pioneer presenters of the station including first Super Morning Show host, Tommy Annan Forson; former Joy Beach Jam host Azigaza Junior ; former Programmes Manager, Cox Tamakloe; and former General Manager, Ken Ashigbe. The Boss Player Komla Dumor, a highly cherished former worker of the station, joined in on the telephone from the United Kingdom to wish all well. Chief Executive Officer of Afrodan, Takyi Micah, perhaps gave the best review of the station’s performance. According to him, Joy FM’s quality programming has ensured that advertisers, especially, get value for money. “My sales have dropped whenever I have taken my adverts from Joy FM,” he said. Some of the activities scheduled for May this year will include a business forum, thanksgiving service, health walk and musical concert which will feature some of the top musicians in the country. Human Resource Manager of Joy FM, Tina Nahyi, said “In diverse ways we believe that we have gladdened up your night, cooled your day and in the moment that you have felt [low] all you have had to do is to tune in to Joy 99.7 and you were assured to receive joy.” The Ghana Journalist Association paid glowing tribute to station for its contribution to the media standard in Ghana. General Secretary Bright Blewu said as a commercial station, “you have brought professionalism to bear in the industry; you have also given meaning to pluralism. Golden Tulip Hotel sponsored the anniversary cake whilst the musical trio Praye was present to give the audience a great rendition of Angelina, one of the group's hit tracks. Memories As the station marks a milestone, some former workers shared fond memories of their time at Joy FM. Former Programmes Manager Cox Tamakloe recounted how he and his colleagues had to spend several nights at the station when it was located at Ajankoto Hills, off the Accra-Aburi road. “We were perching with the GBC at their transmitter site...You couldn’t get water but the fridge was always loaded with beer,” he said, attracting loud laughter from the audience comprising old and new staff.
