Local government Minister, Julius Debrah and Deputy Education Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa have been named Best Performing Minister and Deputy Minister respectively, for the year 2014.
The survey conducted by FAKS Investigative Services, a Ghanaian research and background investigative company, scored Mr. Debrah 88.8% of the 3,437 respondents interviewed across the country.
Mr. Debrah’s lead role in the campaign to rid the country of filth, through the monthly National Sanitation Day exercise, may have earned him the high rating.
Water Resources, Works and Housing Minister, Alhaji Collins Dauda and Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister, Nana Oye Lithur scored 83.4% and 76.3% shared the second best spot.
The third Best Minister of the Year 2014 went to Transport Minister, Dzifa Ativor who recorded 67.8% of approval from the public according to the FAKS survey.
The survey, which is the third edition was conducted between September 30, 2014 and December 31, 2014. The first and second editions took place in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
It was conducted across the country with the focus on the regional capitals and some Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts (MMDAs) capitals in the country.
FAKS objective was to recognize the exceptional work done by the sector Ministers and their Deputies, Regional Ministers and Members of Parliament who did well in 2014.
The main purpose of the survey was to seek the opinion of Ghanaians of which sector Minister, Deputy, Regional Minister and MP did exceptionally well and also deserves to be recognized.
Apart from public opinion, the FAKS team also took into consideration the supervision and implementation of projects, especially concerning the sector Ministers, their Deputies and Regional Ministers.
The survey
Out of the total number of respondents the team interviewed, Ashanti Region recorded 428 respondents representing 12.4%; Greater Accra region recorded 421 representing 12.3%; Eastern region had 396 representing 11.5%; Brong Ahafo 352 representing 10.2%; and Central Region 349 representing 10.1%.
The rest are Volta region 336 representing 9.8%; Western Region 322 representing 9.4%; Northern region 310 representing 9.0%; Upper East 289 representing 8.4%; and Upper West 234 representing 6.8%.
On average each respondent nominated three or more Ministers but was restricted to five nominations.
FAKS Investigative Services scored the best sector Ministers, Deputies, Regional Ministers and MPs according to the number of respondents each had.
The scores are in this form; 85-100% Excellence (A+); 75-85% Very Good (A); 65-75% Good (B+); Partial 50-65% (B).

1. Best Minister of the Year 2014 – Mr. Julius Debrah – Local Government and Rural Development Minister (88.8%).
