Editor of the Daily Searchlight Newspaper, Kenneth Agyei Kuranchie over the weekend launched the “Ken Kuranchie Opinion Foundation” at Lapaz, in the Okaikoi North Constituency of Accra.
The KKOF is to offer assistance to those who may have fallen victim to the country’s penal system, Mr. Kuranchie told Myjoyonline.com.
The controversial writer cum commentator was sentenced to 10 days in prison by the Supreme Court hearing the presidential election petition on July 2, 2013 for criminal contempt over an editorial he authored in his paper, concerning some decisions the court had taken.
Mr. Kuranchie in the editorial, expressed opposing views on the ban the Supreme Court placed on Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku for making comments the judges deemed contemptuous.
On Sunday, Ken and his family joined the congregation at the Ebenezer Methodist Church at Akweteman in Accra, to offer thanks to God following his release from the Nsawam Prisons after serving a 10-day jail term.
Ken Kuranchie who regained his freedom last Thursday was accompanied to the church by his wife, loved ones and some supporters of the opposition NPP.
“I’m here in church with my family and some friends to give thanks to the most high God,” Ken Kuranchie told Adom News indicating that his family had been there to seek God’s protection for him while he was in jail.
Later, the Member of Parliament for Okaikoi North Constituency, Mrs. Elizabeth Sackey organized a reception in honour of Mr. Kuranchie and his family at her residence.
