Kenpong Travel and Tours (KT&T) yesterday rewarded the U-20 national female soccer side the Black Princesses with GH¢10,000 and energy drinks, after they qualified for the World Cup slated for Canada in August.
The Ghanaians picked the World Cup ticket through the hard way by defeating their Equatorial Guinean counterparts 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 aggregate score line at the Accra Stadium.
Beatrice Sasu scored the only goal of the game in the 18th minute to cancel the first leg score, pushing the game into penalties.
Making the presentation in the dressing room after the sweet victory, Mr Kofi Poku, Operations Manager, who stood in for Group CEO of Kenpong Travel and Tours Kennedy ‘Capuccino’ Agyepong said the gesture was to reward the team for making Ghana proud.
“We at Kenpong Travels believe in rewarding excellence and hard work. The team have done themselves and the nation proud. We have always believed in them and this is just a token to urge them on to go the extra mile in Canada.
“We believe this will go a long way to encourage the team to continue from where they have gotten to. As we are preparing to airlift fans to rally support for the Black Stars in Brazil this June, we will do the same for our proud young ladies too,” Mr. Poku said.
Also present in the dressing room was the Minister of Youth and Sports Hon Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, who expressed gratitude to Kenpong Travels for the support, but made an appeal to them to dig their hands deeper into their financial reservoir for a top up of the gesture.
“Let’s go back and prepare very well for Canada. We are proud of you, you have made yourselves and Ghana proud,” the Minister said.
