Ghana midfielder Laryea Kingston has given his World Cup chances a major boost after impressively returning to action following a hamstring injury. Kingston, one of the key Black Stars players to miss January’s Africa Cup of Nations in Angola, has been out of action for two months because of the injury. But he played for his Scottish side Hearts as they defeated Hamilton 2-0 in their Premier League game on Sunday. With 13 minutes remaining, Kingston replaced Novikovas to a mixture of cheers and jeers from the Hearts fans. The Ghanaian was playing for the first time under new boss Jim Jefferries after falling out with previous manager Laszlo Csaba which drew some stick from the club’s fans. Kingston tried to win over his critics in the final minute with an ambitious 30-yard volley too close to Hamilton goalkeeper Cerny. Kingston appealed for handball in the box in stoppage-time before blasting another fine strike over the crossbar. Kingston came off the bench to make his first Hearts appearance since December and Jefferies was glad to see his playmaker back in action. "Laryea Kingston, I thought for the 15 minutes he got on, was lively," added Jefferies. "He got in the game and had a few efforts on the goal." His performance won’t be ignored by Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac who is seeking fine-tune his squad ahead of the World Cup. Kingston is desperate to play in the global tournament after missing the 2006 edition in Germany because of a suspension.
