The Hamashiah Orphanage Centre, built at Kona in the Afigya Sekyere District of the Ashanti Region, was at the weekend inaugurated.
The 30,000 Ghana cedis facility was made up of four bed-rooms, offices, kitchen, bathrooms, toilets and courtyards.
It was constructed by the Aldesgate Foundation, a Christian non-governmental organization (NGO) with support from its donors from Netherlands.
Mr. James Afriyie, a lecturer at the Department of Human Biology, University of Cape Coat, and president of the NGO inaugurating, the centre, said the facility was built to cater for orphans to improve their living conditions.
He said the orphanage would initially admit 36 children of school-going age, who would be made to attend basic school in Kona.
Mr. Afriye said the NGO had registered with the Department of Social Department.
He said the NGO would establish an Evangelism Centre to help win more souls for Christ and also to inculcate in children moral values.
Mr Afriye also said the NGO was planning to acquire land for farming to generate funds to support the Orphanage.
Apostle J.N.Tetteh, Pastor in-charge of the South Suntreso District of the Apostolic Church of Ghana, who dedicated the Centre, urged philanthropists, Churches and organizations to support the poor and needy at all times.
He commended chiefs and elders of the town for releasing land for the orphanage.
Nana Afua Abebrese Serwaah II, Queen Mother of the town, appealed to parents and guardians in the town to support activities of the Orphanage.
She appealed to the NGO and its partners in the Netherlands to sustain the project.
