President John Evans Atta Mills on Saturday said the ferry between Krachi and Kejeji would commence operation from the first quarter of 2010 to improve economic activities in that part of the country.
"I am aware of the breakdown of the ferry between Krachi and Kejeji. I can assure Nananom and their people that the first quarter of next year will put that problem behind us," he said.
The President said this in a speech read on his behalf by Mr Joe Gidisu, Minister of Roads and Highways at the grand durbar of the chiefs and people of Kete-Krachi climaxing the Akwambo (Nanaba) festival.
He also assured the people that the Eastern Corridor road network would be opened by the end of his first term and called for support from all.
The President noted that though his government inherited a huge debt, it was committed to delivering its "better Ghana" agenda within its first term.
He said the Ghana Highway Authority was carrying out a number of maintenance works on some roads in the traditional area and expressed hope that before the first term of his government ends, the story on road in the country and Kete-Krachi in particular would be different.
The President urged the Nananom to continue maintaining peace in the area for its rapid socio-economic development.
Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister advised people in the area to take advantage of government's policies and interventions to improve their socio-economic status.
He inform the people of government's decision to include the four districts located at northern part of the Region into the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority programme and urged them to take advantage of the programme.
Mr Amenowode also spoke about the Youth in Agric module of the National Youth Employment Programme with focus on mechanized farming, urging young people to get enrolled on the programme and others including re-afforestation and fish farming.
Earlier, Nana Mprah Besemunah III, Krachiwura appealed to government to urgently tackle Kete-Krachi-Dambai road, Asukawkaw -Dambai and Krachi township roads to give the town a befitting look as a district capital.
He also appealed to government to take a "personal interest" in the timely rehabilitation of the pontoon linking the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Northern and Volta Regions which had broken down for the past ten years.
Nana Besemunah lauded government's policies on agriculture and appealed to it to provide irrigation services to farmers in the area to ensure all year farming, pledging the people’s unflinching support to government.
