The National Democratic Congress (NDC) General Secretary,Johnson Asiedu Nketia has cautioned former President John Agyekum Kufuor, not to interfere with work of the Electoral Commission as it seeks to create 45 constituencies ahead of the December elections.
The former President who was speaking at the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s campaign launch at the Mantse Agbonaa in James Town Saturday said “while Ghanaians yearn for peaceful elections in December, he had sensed “only one hitch so far and that is the persistence of the Electoral Commission on creating 45 new constituencies when the register has been done for the upcoming election.”
But the NDC General Secretary who was also speaking at the launch of their national campaign, Kumasi said the former president has no business to question the conduct of the E.C and must desist from making comments that would undermine the EC’s integrity.
Asiedu-Nketia said while in power, Kufuor created 30 constituencies which no one questioned hence the red flags he (Kufuor) is raising this time are needless and will not help his party.
The NDC scribe said before the EC created the constituencies, it had already met with the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) of which the NPP was part. Hence if the former President does not understand issues surrounding their creation he should rather quiz members of his party who formed the IPAC, Asiedu Nketia said.
According to Asiedu-Nketia, the NDC has already selected its 275 parliamentary candidates for the upcoming polls admonishing the other political parties to do same before it is too late.
