Students of the Kumasi Polytechnic are pleading with the police to beef up security in and around the campus to ward off criminals. It follows recent spate of armed robbery attacks, one of which left a student dead after being stabbed last month, and a security man with a gunshot wound. The Kumasi Polytechnic campus appears to have become a target of criminal onslaught. About 25 of such raids on students have been recorded in the last three months, with victims losing property worth over ten thousand Ghana cedis. The robberies often occur on the two major streets linking the polytechnic to the rest of the city from the northern and southern ends.Students believe the culprits use the adjacent Asem Cluster of Schools as a hide-out at night.Student Representative Council President, Kwame Blackson, says insecurity is impeding academic work as students fear to stay on at night to study.Mr Blackson is pleading with the security agencies to come to the aid of students by increasing their patrols around the school campus
