NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong says a verdict by the party’s Constitutional Committee to have Fred Opare Hammond and Perry Okudzeto reinstated as Directors of Finance and Communications, is unacceptable.
The two New Patriotic Party officials were asked to proceed on compulsory leave by the General Secretary last month.
A Committee, chaired by former Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye was then established to investigate the matter and advice on how to resolve the issue amicably.
After its work, the Committee described the move by the General Secretary as improper and subsequently directed him [Kwabena Agyapong] “to retract same and apologise to the Director of Finance,” Mr. Opare Hammond.
The Committee also indicated that the decision by Mr. Agyapong to force those two men out of office was without consultation.
“It is hoped that going forward, officers of the Party as highly placed as the General Secretary, will desist from such unhealthy actions which may only expose the Party to avoidable but costly legal suits.”
But Kwabena Agyapong insisted that the party’s legal committee had not been set up yet and so any directive to reinstate the officials was not acceptable.
And therefore, it had also not been directed to investigate any matter bothering on the suspension of those two party officials, he told Joy News’ Kwakye Afreh-Nuamah Wednesday.
Afreh-Nuamah also spoke to Prof. Oquaye and he said it was common knowledge that the party’s council of elders tasked them [committee members] to look into the matter.
Also, he expressed shock at Kwabena Agyapong’s claim that a legal team had not been formed.
