Dr. K.Y. Amoako, founder and president of the African Centre for Economic Transformation, has stated that Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, would have been saddened to see the current state of the country.
According to him, Ghana has deviated from the vision set by the late Dr Nkrumah, who had a grand ambition for the nation’s progress.
Speaking during the National Economic Dialogue which kicked off on Monday, 3rd March, Dr Amoako said, "I am sure that if Kwame Nkrumah were to be with us here today, he will be saddened to see how far we have strayed from his vision and share his disappointment".
Dr Amoako added that there is a need to embrace the "African personality that Kwame Nkrumah dreamt of more than 40 years ago when he said Africa needs a new type of citizen".
He emphasised that the country’s development path has strayed from the original ideals of independence and self-sufficiency that Dr Nkrumah had envisioned for Ghana.
He said despite the numerous strides the country has made since independence, the goals outlined by Dr Nkrumah are yet to be fully realised.
The event, organised by the government, seeks to gather insights from various stakeholders on how to rebuild and strengthen Ghana’s economy.
