Former Health Minister, Alban Bagbin, has indicated the strike by doctors over unpaid arrears is just one of several challenges facing various units in the health sector.
He warned the situation could spread to other units in the health sector unless a comprehensive overhaul of general conditions of services is done. He was certain a reorganisation of the sector will prevent future strikes.
Mr Bagbin told Joy News there is no existing plan guiding conditions of service and job progression for staff. “That definitely cannot encourage or (incentivise) the worker”, he lamented.
According to him, one of the critical things he took up as Minister of Health was to try and institute a comprehensive conditions of service for the health sector, but he was unable to accomplish this before being moved to another ministry.
Mr Alban Bagbin is one of three people inducted into office on Thursday 11th April by President John Mahama to supervise special priority projects of government.
The other members are former majority leader Cletus Avoka and Mr. ET Mensah, MP for Ningo-Prampram.
