A one minute silence was observed in honour of the late Joy FM and BBC ace broadcaster Komla Dumor at the 57th Independence Anniversary Celebration held in Ave-Bakpa in the the Volta Region, Thursday.
The late Dumor was a native of Aflao in the Volta Region and until his death was a youth development chief of Aflao. He died on January 18, 2014.
His achievements, organisers of the independence anniversary in Volta Region believe would inspire the young ones to greater heights.
The celebration was however nearly marred by a heavy downpour.
As at 10am school children were still waiting for the rains to subside before the celebration would begin.
Shortly after the rains, the parade began in earnest with a march past by school children and personnel of the security services amidst brass band music.
The Member of Parliament for Akatsi North Peter Nortsu Koteo bemoaned the falling standards of education in the region and stressed the need for both parents and teachers to take the education of children in the region very seriously.
The District Chief Executive of Akatsi North James Gunu gave the assurance that government is committed to executing its promises it made during the elections.
