The Ghana Hotels Association after its National Executive Council meeting in Accra of Thursday issued a press release to express concern about the actions of one Kwaku Nsiah of Berekum in the Brong Ahafo Region.
Some aggrieved members of the Hotel Owners Association in Berekum led by Mr. Nsiah are accusing the National Executives of the Ghana Hoteliers Association of overstay in office and mismanagement of resources.
The document in particular charges Nana Kofi Adjei Twinin of dishonourable conduct but the association consider it as libelous of its President and the Collective image of the executives.
The release, which was signed by Seth Asare, National Secretary of the Association said it has come to the notice of the National Executive Council that Mr. Nsiah, who styles himself as the Chairman of a “non-existing concerned Hotels Owners Association in Berekum in the Brong Ahafo Region is maliciously circulating materials in which he makes personal references to the President of the Association, Nana Kofi Adjei Twinin and other officers of the National Executive Council.”
According to the release, the documents so far circulated by the said Kwaku Nsiah are titled “The opened Pandora box of Ghana Hotels Association from Brong Ahafo” and Discrepancies in the administration of the hotel industry and the manipulations of the constitution of the Ghana Hotels Association by Nana Adjei Twinin and his associates.”
“The materials, which charge Nana Kofi Adjei Twinin in particular with dishonourable conduct is maliciously calculated to have a reaching consequences for a national office he is vying for within the hospitality industry,” the release stated.
It added that the National Executive Council of the Association finds the materials being wantonly and widely circulated grossly libelous of its President and of the collective image and it is in this regard that the Association has referred the documents, which are purported to be in the public domain against the executives to the Police to deal with it and take the necessary action.
“Unfortunately, the said Kwaku Nsiah who signed the two documents is a faceless person. The Association, which takes a very serious view of the matter is referring the two documents to the Police to assist the Association identify its author for the appropriate legal steps to be taken to clear its image,” it opined.
Speaking to the press in an interview, Nana Twinin, who is the Managing Director of Mac-Dic Royal Plaza Hotel in Koforidua in the Eastern Region and a Board member of the Ghana Tourism Board, said the association is supposed to hold executive meeting annually but for reasons beyond their control, it sometimes takes two-to-three years for the national executive meeting to come on.
According to Nana Twinin, by their constitution, the President of the Association can serve two terms in office after which he exits for another person to take over and mentioned that the next congress, where new officers would be elected is slated for March this year.
Meanwhile, Edwin Owusu-Ansah, the Deputy Executive Director in-charge of Operations of the Ghana Tourist Board said the upcoming national executive congress is expected to critically look at the way of strengthening manpower in the Tourism Industry in order to provide quality services to the customers so as to meet the International Standards.
