PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY CONCERNED YOUTH OF KEEA
CONSTITUENCY IN REGARD TO UNHOLY ATTEMPTS TO DROP THE INCUMBENT MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT DR. J.S. ANNAN IN FAVOUR OF DR. ATO QUARSHIE ON WEDNESDAY 18TH JULY, 2012We the, Concerned Youth of the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) Constituency in the Central Region are appalled and opposed to the subtle machinations by some local interested persons and top Party Officials in Accra to circumvent the principles of justice and fairness in the re-election of the incumbent Member of Parliament, Dr. J.S. Annan for the 2012 Elections. The pressure from some Regional and Constituency Executives to replace the incumbent with the former M.P for the area Dr. Ato Quarshie, is well known to us, and would be resisted with all the forces at our disposal. On what fair grounds is this decision being hatched to be implemented; what is the moral justification for this blatant act?We are aware of Allotey Jacobs, the NDC Central Regional Communications Director, Mr. Tiger The Constituency Chairman and The Constituency Organizer’s involvement in this scheme to oust the duly elected Parliamentary Candidate Dr. J.S. Annan and bring on board Dr. Ato Quarshie. We want to state here and now that it is a dangerous precedence to carry this action through because the consequences honestly will be debilitating to the NDC’s Parliamentary fortunes in the Constituency.Winning elections is about numbers, and nobody should be fooled to believe that the Communications Director Allotey Jacobs and co have empirical evidence to the fact that the grassroots membership of the Party favours Dr. Ato Quarshie over Dr. J.S. Annan. The two of them went through the Primaries of the Party and the preferred candidate won with over 70 votes difference, period. How could a high Party Officials like Allotey Jacobs, a Communications Director, The Constituency Chairman and a constituency organizer for that matter, state that the grass-roots at the KEEA Constituency believe that the delegates that re-elected Dr. J.S. Annan committed a political blunder? This is an insult to the sensibilities and fair judgments of the Delegates who cast their votes to this effect. It is normal for supporters of a loosing Candidate to agitate, but in the unfortunate event when such situations arise, the best thing for the Party hierarchy to do, is to find ways of making the loosing side understand that it is a fair democratic process, which needs to be respected and uphold by all.Circumventing the results or outcome of a credible constitutional democratic practice takes away the breath of truth and violates the principles of morality and fairness. N.D.C! – What lessons in justice and fairness are we trying to teach our youth? Are we telling the youth that sometimes it is good to set aside the truth for falsehood? If it is so, then we are setting in motion a decadent principle to corrupt our youth who are the future leaders of this nation. We the concerned youth at the grassroots will resist this attempt to reverse the voice of the delegates who in their wisdom and estimation gave Dr. J.S. Annan their vote and support to be the Party’s candidate in the forthcoming Parliamentary Elections. We will warn that if such evil plans are not abandoned by these selfish people we shall expose them to the surprise of everybody and their hidden agenda will also be know to the people of the constituency. The best decision the Party should take in this situation is to engage the supporters of Dr. Ato Quarshie and persuade them, in the supreme interest of the N.D.C. Party, to see reason and come on board to campaign for victory in both the Parliamentary and Presidential Elections in the Constituency, if not we shall organize over thousand constituency youth and march to Accra to petition the Party executives and the President as well within 24 hours.
