An Accra based legal practitioner has condemned the Police Administration’s decision to suspend all planned demonstrations until hearing of the Supreme Court petition is determined. The Police in a statement signed by Director General in charge of Administration, DCOP Rose Bio Atinga, said majority of their troops has been committed to the election petition hearing. According to the statement, the Police is not in a position to provide adequate security for any group of persons who wants to demonstrate. Several groups and individuals have since criticised the directive. One such individual is Paul Kumi, an Accra based legal practitioner. He told Joy News the Police rushed with the decision. According to him, what the Police should have done was to wait for groups who intend to embark on these demonstrations to make their case through the legally stipulated 5-day notice before stating whether they can provide security or not. He said in the instance where the group refuses to abide by the Police’s directive not to go on demonstrations, the Police can then go to Court to seek redress.
