As part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives, Hair and Beauty by Lola, popularly known as LOLA LOCS GH, organised a special event at the Madina Market in Accra to celebrate women during this year’s Mother’s Day.
The May 10, 2024 event, themed, “My Mother, My Joy” sought to honour the market women who are the backbone of the local economy.

The celebration featured various activities, including free beauty services and gift distribution, to show appreciation to the women for their hard work and dedication to family and nation-building.

Spearheaded by the salon’s founder, Mrs Latifa Adekanla, the event transformed the busy market into a day of pampering, dancing and merry-making.

Lola Loc’s team of skilled stylists worked from 5.00 am to 6.00 pm and offered beauty services to over 100 market women at the Madina market making them feel special.

From stylish braids, weave-ons, dreadlocks and re-twists, each service was tailored to enhance the natural beauty of each woman.

Addressing the audience, Mrs Adekanla remarked: “Most of these women are very busy and cannot afford to get their hair done on a regular basis, so we wanted to bring the salon to them. Over the last three (3) years, we have done the same thing for other markets including the Kasoa market in the Central Region.”

She added: “Mother’s Day is about celebrating the incredible strength and resilience of mothers everywhere and we wanted these amazing women to feel appreciated and valued for the contribution they bring to the community.

Beyond the beauty services, Lola Locs also gave out gifts and souvenirs from Ghandour Cosmetics, Coca-Cola, Delse shop and Darling Hair Ghana which sponsored the event and also shared snacks.

The event also featured a dance performance from Dancing Champions which entertained the crowd, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere.

The success of the event was due to the collaborative effort of the team from Lola Locs GH, the Local businesses which sponsored, other braiders from the market who volunteered and community leaders who helped mobilise the market women and encouraged participation.

Mrs Latifa Adekanla thanked all of them for their massive support.
To crown the event, the positive feedback from the attendees and the visible joy on the faces of the market women underscored the event’s success, making it a memorable celebration of motherhood and community spirit.
